The Vacation Account That Only Knows Days

MOCO's previous vacation model is based solely on the target hours per day that are set. This guarantees an exact and therefore fair calculation, even for part-time employees. In today's flexible working world, it ensures adherence to the principle of equality. However, feedback indicates that there are two camps, and some prefer a simple deduction by days. So, we have adapted and created this selectable alternative.

Comparison of Models

Max works full-time. Tim works 90% – he works 6 instead of 8 hours on Wednesday and Friday. Max and Tim both take an extended weekend.

→ Max is deducted 2 days – regardless of the model.
→ Tim is deducted exactly 1.75 days, or 2 days by day count.

By Day Count

→ Advantage Simple to understand (WYSIWYG).
→ Disadvantage Can lead to discussions. Part-time employees may feel disadvantaged or may tend to take days off on the days with the most target hours.

By Exact Hours

→ Advantage Fair for both employer and employee.
→ Disadvantage Requires thought, especially when changing the amount of work during the year.

Our Recommendation

Choose by day count if all employees work full-time or all have the same daily hours.
Choose by exact hours if there are many part-time employees with different daily hours.

Settings

In the settings under "Planning", you can choose either
  • By Day Count – Credit and deduction in days regardless of the daily target hours
  • By Exact Hours – Credit and deduction in hours according to daily target hours
It can also be switched on a trial basis without "breaking anything". Half days can still be used in the by day count model.
